Real Law Review:

I get requested loads about whether or not being a practising lawyer is like being a lawyer on TV. I like watching authorized motion pictures and courtroom dramas. It’s one of many causes I made a decision to turn out to be a lawyer. But typically they make me need to pull my hair out as a result of they’re ridiculous.

Today I’m taking a break from representing shoppers and instructing regulation college students how to kick ass in regulation college to tackle legal professionals within the motion pictures and on TV. While all authorized motion pictures and reveals take dramatic license to make issues extra fascinating (no person desires to see a whole lot of hours of transient writing), a lot of them have a grain of fact.

This is a part of a seamless sequence of “Lawyer Reaction” movies. Got a authorized film or TV present you would like me to critique? Let me know within the feedback!

  1. Lawyers are so condescending to nonattorneys they think none of us ever study the law.  I've been a paralegal to some of the best lawyers in the country (not by income but by skill), big and small firms, in three different states, plus I used to read the constitution as a hobby.  I even beat Microsoft in a case where they had a big law firm and I had no one.  Two 80-minute hearings.  Don't even get me started about the industry's #metoo problem.

  2. Only in movies do mechanics know off the top of their heads every single option on every car. She is not even really a mechanic. Hot yes she is, but this is bs.

  3. You should have added this is why you don't talk to cops and use your 5th amendment. When they were being interrogated the kid said twice "I shot the clerk?" Asking a question but in court the sheriff used that statement against him saying the same thing but in a more matter fact tone not the question tone. So remember anything you say can and WILL be used against you not for you. The "can and" is used to confuse people. It should be anything you say will be used against you in a court of law.

  4. I object!
That car could have a aftermarket LS differential. A car with a factory LSD that's 30 years old will most likely be worn out and technically be a open dif.
    I rest my case

  5. Its interesting to see a real professional like these movies, which I feel its rare. Example
Firefighters hate Backdraft and rescue me.
Police hate most Cop movies and shows with exception of Beverly Hills Cop.
Veterans hate all military movies before Saving Private Ryan.
Only met one Paleontologist that liked Jurrasic Park.
Ok, Ok, I guess bouncers tend to like Roadhouse and Astronaut for Apollo 13.
I get that movies were never meant to portray the profession accurately, but the point is I find it rare to see the real thing speak positive of a movie.

  6. I've watched some of your vids and wow, a comedy so far gets the highest score on legal realism. The writer surely did something right. If I visirt the US I'll probably actually visit some court since I work at a court and I kinda find the process in the court room interesting. Court procedings work a bit different i suspect 🙂

  7. The daubert standard didn't exist at the time this film was released. The case it came from was concluded in 1993, this film is from 1992. This means they would have been using the older Frye test which focuses on the general acceptability of the test which is just one factor in the daubert standard.
